Rob Gilmour | Bassist

Rob started to play bass at the tender age of fifteen, playing his first gig two months later, and has been gigging nearly constantly since then.

At eighteen he began his full time musical training, at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford. During his year at the ACM Rob was given the chance to study under and play alongside some great musicians, including; Mark Richardson (Feeder), Paul Geary (Simply Red, Nik Kershaw), Pete Riley (Republica) and Paul Winter-Hart (Kula Shaker).

After leaving the Academy of Contemporary Music Rob decided to continue with his musical studies and spent three years studying at the University College Northampton. He graduated in June 2001 with a BA Hons in Music, with Media & Popular Culture.

Since graduating Rob has continued playing and gigging with a range of artists in a very broad range of genres, from Nu Jazz to Nu Metal, from Bhangra to Hip Hop.

Currently Rob is involved with several exciting projects:

With Punjabi/electronica/live break beat group The Dhol Foundation with whom Rob has performed all over the world and had the chance to share a stage with Johnny Kalsai (Alaap, Transglobal Underground, Afro Celt Sound System) and KS Bhamrah (Punjabi MC) as well as many other great musicians.

Rob has also formed, plays bass, and is the musical director for functions band Soul Direction. Playing a seamless mix of smooth soul, funk, acid jazz, disco and banging dance tunes. The band play at a range of wedding receptions, corporate events, parties and other functions.

Over the years Rob's versatility has enabled him to work in many different musical fields, including function and party bands, pantomime, and in the house band for Jazz Jam nights.

Previously Rob was gigging and touring with The Common Moral Cause his 'originals' band, a collective of 11 musicians combining soul, funk and Hip-Hop. TCMC gigged all over the UK, including appearances at The Astoria, Oxford Zodiac, Secret Garden Party and Sunrise Celebration.

In the early 'naughties' he also gigged and toured extensively with emo-rock band Three Days Old. This gave him the opportunity to share a stage with artists, including Hundred Reasons, Orange Goblin, and Sergio Vega (featuring members of Helmet and Quicksand). As well as some Golden oldies like Spear of Destiny, Get Animal and All about Eve. Rob has also worked with former Revlon model Adrianna, on her funky debut album with Acid Jazz.
